Some 100 Macau high school students set out to Zhuhai, a southern coastal
city in the mainland, to have a taste of what a soldier's life is like by
joining a military summer camp there, the Macau Post Daily reported
today. The camp, jointly organized by the People's Liberation Army (PLA)
Garrison in Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the SAR government, is
the fourth of its kind for local students. The camp's activities include
military drills and lectures on the political and social developments in the
country. Speaking during the ceremony held at the garrison's back-up
facilities, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the SAR Chui Sai On said
he hoped the students will strengthen their "self-confidence, discipline and
team spirit" during the camp. The PLA garrison maintains two barracks in the
SAR, and more spacious back-up facilities in Zhuhai, where the camp is being
held.
