Taiwan's Chunghwa Post held a ceremony in Taipei yesterday to officially
mark changing back to its original name.
Since February last year, the island's postal service had been using the name
"Taiwan Post" under pressure of the former administration led by Chen Shui-bian
of the Democratic Progressive Party. Chunghwa means "Chinese".
On Monday morning, the plate of Chunghwa Post Co., Ltd. was put up at the
company's headquarters in Taipei.
The board of the company reached a decision on Friday to revert to its
original name Chunghwa Post Co., Ltd. and all its outlets would have their
signboards changed back to "Chunghwa Post."
The former administration led by Chen Shui-bian carried out a desinization
policy in Taiwan.
In April, the communications committee of Taiwan's "Legislative Yuan" passed
a resolution ordering the company to revert back to its original name before the
end of October.
