China, Singapore vow to strengthen defense cooperation

Chinese and Singaporean defense ministers held talks in Beijing today,
vowing to further strengthen defense cooperation between the two
countries. Defense Minister Liang Guanglie and Singaporean Minister for
Defence Teo Chee Hean, talked about the smooth development of bilateral military
relations and fruitful cooperation of their armed forces. "China is willing
to work with Singapore to further promote bilateral relations between the two
countries and their armed forces," said Liang. "Jointly, we can play an active
role in maintaining regional stability and security." Teo echoed Liang by
speaking highly of the defense cooperation between the two countries in recent
years. He said one goal of his China visit is to further strengthen military
contacts and cooperation. He hoped the two sides would continue to build trust
and promote bilateral relations.
