Brazil's parliament will further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with
China's National People's Congress (NPC), China's legislative body, Brazil's
parliamentary leaders said yesterday. Brazil-China parliamentary exchanges
have played a positive and important role in promoting the bilateral strategic
partnership, said Garibaldi Alves, president of the Federal Senate of Brazil,
when he met in Brasilia with Li Zhaoxing, chairman of the foreign affairs
committee of the NPC. He believes China will play a more important role in
world affairs, especially in this moment when the world is facing a serious
financial crisis. Arlindo Chinaglia, president of the Federal Chamber of
Deputies, said closer parliamentary relations between the two sides will not
only help enhance understanding and friendship between the two peoples, but also
help promote the bilateral strategic partnership. China attaches great
importance to Sino-Brazil relations from a strategic perspective, said Li,
ex-Foreign Minister of China. Parliaments of the two countries have continued
to conduct multi-tier exchanges in recent years, enhancing the bilateral
strategic partnership, Li added. He said China would like to work with Brazil
to improve the effectiveness of parliamentary exchanges, to inject new vitality
and significance into the bilateral strategic partnership. Li arrived Monday
for a visit to Brazil.
