China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin made a proposal yesterday for the
comprehensive development of Sino-Cambodian relations.
Jia made the proposal at a celebration marking the 50th anniversary of
bilateral diplomatic ties, which was attended by over 500 people from both
sides.
Jia proposed that the two sides should consolidate bilateral traditional
friendship, enhance mutual trust, push forward economic and trade cooperation
for common development, promote cultural exchanges, and strengthen coordination
in multi-lateral affairs to safeguard common interests.
In his speech titled "Strengthen Traditional Friendship and Build A Better
Future Together" delivered at the celebration, Jia, chairman of the National
Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC),
spoke highly of bilateral good neighborly friendship and cooperation.
He said the Chinese government attaches great importance to its relations
with Cambodia, and will work with Cambodia to further promote the long-term and
sound growth of bilateral comprehensive and cooperative partnership.
Jia, who arrived here Tuesday on an official goodwill visit as guest of
Cambodian Senate President Chea Sim, said he believes that bilateral relations
are bound to have a better future.
Cambodia is the last leg of Jia's four-nation visit which has taken him to
Jordan, Turkey and Laos.
