China seals new links to Grenada

China has resumed diplomatic ties with the tiny Caribbean island of
Grenada. Foreign minister Li Zhaoxing and his Grenadian counterpart Elvin
Nimrod signed a joint communique in Beijing yesterday. Li expressed his
appreciation for the Grenadian government's decision to resume
relations. China cut off diplomatic ties with Grenada in 1989. Nimrod said
resuming diplomatic ties with China is historically significant. "The
Grenadian government recognizes there is only one China, that the government of
the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government to represent the
whole of China and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China," Nimrod
said.
