The Chinese Ministry of Commerce published rules on applications for textile
export quotas, according to a circular on its official Website. Textile firms
exporting to "countries or regions that impose limitations on Chinese textile
exports, or to those that have temporary quantity limitations on Chinese
textiles" should apply to regulators for export licenses from July 20, the
circular said. China will limit annual export growth of 10 textile products to
the European Union to between 8 percent and 12.5 percent through 2007 as part of
an agreement reached between the world's two biggest clothing exporters. The
nation's clothing exports rose 17.2 percent to US$24.4 billion in the first five
months of the year, according to customs statistics. Shipments of yarn and
knitted items surged 23 percent to US$15.5 billion.
