This year's
Christmas dinners, though with high prices of up to 1,888 yuan (US$233) per
person, have proved a hit in the city, today's Youth Daily reported. A
five-star hotel on Huashan Road is charging up to 1,288 yuan per person for its
dinner on Christmas eve, Besides offering such traditional fare as roast turkey
and top-quality steaks, the hotel will also entertain diners with performances
by Russian dancers, Chinese acrobats and a Brazilian samba troupe. "We have
conducted market surveys and found our prices are among the cheapest," said an
employee with the hotel, adding that nearly 90 percent of the seats have already
been booked. At a four-star hotel on West Yan'an Road, customers paying
488-1,588 yuan per person for the Christmas dinner can win Christmas gifts, the
first prize in the lucky draw that night being a 48-inch LCD TV worth more than
30,000 yuan. To date, 60-70 percent of the seats have been booked, with those
priced at 1,588 yuan proving most popular. "The more expensive the seats, the
more popular they are. Most of the demand is coming from companies looking to
treat their clients or employees," said a spokesman for the
hotel.
