Han Huang (723-787)
Cathering of Literati
Collection of the Palace Museum

Han Huang (723-787), a native of Chang'an (present-day Xi'an, Shanxi province) is also known by his zi (designated name) Tai Chong. Being the Prime Minister during the Dezhong reign of the Tang dynasty, he was also proficient in both painting and calligraphy. The inscription on the painting by the Song Emperor Huizong ascribes it as "Cathering of Literati by Han Huang", but some scholars recently authenticated it as a work by Zhou Wneju.

Anonymous (Five dynasties 907-960)
Water mill at the dam
Collection of the Shanghai Museum
This is a very important and well-recordered painting, which gives a faithful and detailed description of a water mill used before the Northern Song dynasty. The signature "by Wei Xian" was later added.

Star images and a lady
Collection of the Shanghai Museum
Unearthed from Gansu province, the painting has no signature or seal mark of the artist. Judging from the lady's costume and hair ornaments on the painting, it might be a work from the Five dynasties.
