The city's top lawmakers will focus on improving government work to propel drinking water safety, property management service, and public health care in rural parts of the city this year, Gong Xueping, director of the standing committee of the Shanghai People's Congress, said yesterday.
"We will concentrate on supervising those residential issues that are strongly related to daily life this year," Gong told more than 800 members of the SPC yesterday.
The committee is also planning to draft a batch of new laws this year, covering issues such as road maintenance, workers' rights and protection of public property.
It will also hold public hearings and publish draft laws before making any major residents-related legislation or legal revision.
The committee is the city's premier lawmaking panel and has the authority to supervise government works.
