More than 1,600 athletes from 20 countries and regions will receive health
checks in the city, as the healthcare scheme for the 2006 Special Olympics
Shanghai Invitational Games began yesterday.
The health check will cover
vision, hearing, nutrition, limbs and fitness.
Special apparatus to test bone
density and body fat composition will be adopted for the first time at the
Special Olympic Games, the organizer said.
More than 200 doctors and
volunteers from Shanghai's medical institutions will join to provide the medical
service.
The 2006 Special Olympics Shanghai Invitational Games kicked off
with an opening ceremony last night at the Shanghai Grand Stage.
The five-day
sports event is a rehearsal for the 2007 Shanghai Special Olympic Games.
