one of the world's leading athletic events. Every two years, thousands of
Special Olympics athletes from around the world come together to showcase their
athletic skills and celebrate the spirit of Special Olympics.
Alternating between Summer and Winter Games, the Special Olympics World Games
is a world-class sporting event featuring intense competition and inspiring
performances by the great athletes of Special Olympics.
The 2005
Special Olympics World Winter Games, held in Nagano, Japan, on 26
February - 5 March, marked the first time the World Winter Games were held in
Asia. The Games drew more than 1,800 athletes from 84 countries, and thousands
of families, volunteers, spectators and journalists from around the world.
