The 2007 Special Olympics World Games which will be held in Shanghai, China
is not only a sports event attracting the worlda€?s attention, but is also a
grand meeting of humanitarianism. Shanghaia€?s hosting of the 2007 Special
Olympics World Games reflects the Chinese governmenta€?s concern for persons
with intellectual disabilities, and the selection of Shanghai as host city for
the Games shows that, on a global level, the continual progress of Chinese civil
society is being acknowledged.? ? By celebrating the Special Olympics World
Games, our goal is that all of Chinese society learns to accept persons with
intellectual disabilities and develops the spirit of the Special Olympics
message of inclusion, acceptance and changing attitudesa€?.
Having undertaken the challenge of making the 2007 Special Olympics World
Games the most successful, most splendid and most unforgettable sports games in
2007, we are now issuing a global public call for participation in the 2007
Special Olympics World Games Logo, Theme and 2005 Public Service Announcement
(PSA) collection activities.

1. Logo
Official logo image for the 2007 Special Olympics World Games; to be used on
signage, pageantry, print and derived products in connection with the Games.?
2. Theme
The theme of the 2007 Special Olympics World Games should express the spirit
of the Special Olympics World Games in simple language, to be used for promotion
of the Games, and to constitute the main content of the theme song of the games.
3. 2005 Public Service Announcement
The 2005 PSA is to convey to people the meaning of the Special Olympics World
Games and its spirit.
III. Collection requirements
1. Logo
(1) Applicants:
Domestic and foreign professional agencies engaged in graphic design; all
others, including professional designers and amateur designers, etc.?
(2) Design requirements:
No limitation on quantity of submitted works.
Reflect the spirit of the Special Olympics and the messaging of the 2007
World Games a€¡°a€?sport as celebration and inclusiona€?
? Be two-dimensional
? A colorful and lively design that is easily understood by all audiences
? Conveys Chinese and Western design characteristics
In the bottom part of the logo, the letters a€?Special Olympics Shanghai
2007a€? shall be written; it should be somehow related with the logo of Special
Olympics World Games, and different from the logo of other games.
2. Theme
(1) Applicants:
All those from various domestic and overseas circles who are willing to make
a contribution to 2007 Special Olympics World Games.
(2) Design requirements:
a combination of traditional and modern cultures, Chinese and western
cultures;
Reflect the spirit of the Special Olympics and the messaging of the 2007
World Games a€¡°a€?sport as celebration and inclusiona€?
? Emphasize the effort made by the whole community to include and accept
those with intellectual disabilities
? Be concise, comprehensive and easily understood, both in Chinese and
English.?
3. 2005 PSA requirements
(1)Applicants:
All those from various domestic and overseas circles who are willing to make
a contribution to 2007 Special Olympics World Games.
(2) Preparation requirements:
The following key messages must be conveyed: what Special Olympics is &
what the spirit of Special Olympics is
? Emotive and moving
? International in nature (i.e. communication via images and music rather
than one specific language)
? A total duration of 30 seconds
IV. Submission requirements
(I) Logo
1. Submission requirements of works
1) Applicants should download the submission form (Addendum: Submission Form (1)
for Logo,? Submission Form (2)
for Logo) from the official website of 2007 Special Olympics World Games and
complete it as per the following requirements:
(1) The form should be filled in with blue or black pen in regular script
(2) The works submitted in name of the agency should be filled in with the
name of the agency and stamped with the official seal of the agency if
applicable.
2) The physical mounting of the works should meet the following
requirements:
(1) Each piece of works should be delivered in 2 copies (draft A and draft
B), printed in an A4 (210*297mm) size.
(2) Draft A for competition should be mounted in the center of a black
paperboard of A3 size (297*420mm), with the completed submission form
(Addendum:Submission Form (1)
for Logo) on the back of the mounted draft A and sent by post or delivered
to the designated address together with the draft B, Submission Form
(Addendum:Submission Form (2)
for Logo) and the a€?Copyright Transfer Agreementa€? (Addendum:Copyright
Transfer Agreement) signed by the author.? Applicants should keep a manuscript
for themselves. Submitted works will not be returned.
(3) The works conforming to the above-mentioned requirements are considered
as valid works, and are qualified for participating in the selection.
(4) All the submission forms and the a€?Copyright Transfer Agreementa€? can
be downloaded from the official website of 2007 Special Olympics World Games.

1. Applicants shall download the submission rules and relevant formats

Special Olympics World Games. The design submission format for the theme shall
contain the following information: a) type of submitted works; b) description of
originality of the submitted works; c) name, occupation of applicant, name of
employer, ID no.; d) the works submitted in the name of an agency should be
filled in with the name of the agency, and stamped with the official seal; e)
applicant contact information.
2. The submitted works should be printed on A4 size paper. One printed copy
should be prepared for each draft. In the case of several works for submission,
each should be printed separately. Attention for printed works: courier typeface
for Chinese version, and Arial typeface for English version; manually entered
forms should be completed with black or blue pen.
(III). 2005 PSA
1. Applicants shall download the submission rules and relevant formats

of 2007 Special Olympics World Games. The design submission for the PSA shall
contain the following information: a) type of submitted works; b) description of
originality of the submitted works; c) name, occupation of applicant, employer
name, ID no.; d) works submitted in the name of agency should be filled in with
the name of the agency, and stamped with the official seal; e) applicant contact
information.
2. The submitted works for competition should be prepared in DVD or BETA with
2 copies in total.

The works should be submitted between November 1, 2004 and January 1,
2005.The closing date of submissions is subject to the postmarked date of Drafts

VI. Appraisal method
The 2007 Special Olympics World Games Executive Committee will form a
selection committee to judge the works. Leaders of the Games Executive
Committee, officials from Special Olympics, domestic and foreign artists, and
sociologists will be invited to particpate on the selection committee.
The public can also take part in the judging and selection of the logo and
theme through the official website of 2007 Special Olympics World Games.
Comments from the public will be forwarded to the appraisal commission for
consideration.?
The final results will be published upon completion on a selected date to be
determined.
VI. Awards
1. RMB 200,000 awarded to the winning logo designer; RMB 10,000 warded to 10
logo design finalists.?
2. RMB 200,000 awarded to the winning theme creator; RMB 10,000 awarded to 10
theme creator finalists.
3. RMB 300,000 awarded to the winning 2005 Public Service Announcement
producer; RMB 30,000awarded to 5 PSA finalists.
The authors whose works are selected will be invited to attend the Opening
Ceremony of 2007 Special Olympics World Games.
VII. Explanations
1. Submitted works for the logo, theme and PSA competition should be
submitted separately and will be judged individually.
2. Once selected, the proprietary rights, modification rights and usage
rights of the logo, theme and PSA shall belong solely to the 2007 Special
Olympics World Games Executive Committee. Designers shall not use the designs
for any other purpose.
3. Submitted drafts will not be returned to artists whose works are or are
not selected.
4. The final interpretation of the Theme, Logo and PSA collection activity
remains the sole and exclusive right of the 2007 Special Olympics World Games.
5. Applicants are responsible for any consequences arising from tort due to
plagiary, citation etc. The organizing entity takes no responsibility
thereof.
