Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng welcomed a delegation of cooperative partners for the 2007 Shanghai Special Olympic Games, led by Gregory L. Curl, Bank of America - Global Corporate Planning and Strategy executive and Xie Duyang, chairman of the board of supervisors of China Construction Bank (CCB), yesterday.
Mayor Han thanked the Bank of America and China Construction Bank for their support of the Special Olympics. The Games offers more than 200 sport events for the 2.25-million-plus mentally challenged children and adults from more than 150 countries and areas, with over 50 million supporters. The 2007 summer Games is the first of its kind to be held in China and Asia, and nearly 7,000 athletes are expected to attend the 23 sport events in the city, Mayor Han said, adding that the sponsorship from the two banks shows their devotion and support of mentally-challenged people everywhere.
Gregory L. Curl and Xie Duyang said they are happy to contribute to the Special Olympics and believe that the city will hold a successful summer Games.
