The Shanghai Stadium is undergoing a facelift for October's Special Olympics, Shanghai Daily reported.

The investment in the project is unknown but according to engineers of the Shanghai Construction Company, the project builder, a major part of the job is to enhance security systems.

Security checks at the stadium will be even stricter than those at the airport, according to a company official, who requested anonymity. Ground-level security cameras, for example, will be used to check the undercarriages of vehicles.

The project, to be completed in June, includes the replacement of 80,000 chairs. The new chairs fold automatically without producing much noise when audience stand up.
