People will have to hail cabs at dedicated taxi stands in the Xujiahui area
beginning in mid September, Youth Daily said today.
The move is part of a
project to ensure smooth traffic during the Shanghai Special Olympics, which
opens at Shanghai Stadium in the area on October 2.
The stands will be
off the main streets, but in front of shopping malls and office buildings, said
Gao Shiyun, a senior official with the urban transport administration in Xuhui
District.
Thus, they won't interfere with traffic on the roads, Gao
said.
Meanwhile, a large parking lot in Xujiahui is also being
planned.
Residents in a residential area on Zhongcao Road will be
relocated to make way for the parking lot, which will be exclusive to the
Special Olympics for the duration of the Games that end on October
11.
The saddle-shaped Shanghai Stadium will be decorated with white, blue
and yellow lights at night during the Special Olympics, which is in line with
the theme of the games, Fang Yanqing, chief in lighting construction, told the
newspaper.
"We will use energy-saving LED lights," Fang told the
newspaper. "And no scaffolding has been used during the installation process."
