Shanghai Daily news

City authorities will carry out a series of checks on local restaurants and fashion markets in the run-up to the 2007 Special Olympic Summer Games.

The Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau Hongkou District branch has checked most of the small restaurants near the stadiums that will be in use during the games. The bureau has shut down restaurants it has found without appropriate business or health licenses.

Because the stadiums and hotels for the games are scattered over the city's 18 districts and Chongming County, the bureau has increased its inspection staff.

The bureau's Zhabei District and Pudong New Area branches have also inspected the Qipu Road fashion market and the Yatai Xinyang fashion market and seized more than 2,470 fake brand products.

The bureau's complaint center will have two to three officials proficient in English dealing with the inquiries from the Special Olympic participants during the Games.

The games, which begin in Shanghai on October 2, will see more than 10,000 athletes and coaches from 160 countries and regions taking part in the games which will be staged in 30 sporting venues throughout the city.
