China Mobile and Shanghai Telecom will provide telecommunication services for the 2007 Special Olympic Summer Games, officials announced yesterday.
China Mobile's Shanghai branch has tested connections in the 96 hotels and 30 stadiums hosting the Special Olympic athletes, making sure the network will handle a large amount of telephone calls during the Games.
Shanghai Telecom will provide broadband access at the stadiums and hotels, ensuring smooth communication between delegations and the Games' executive committee.
Shanghai Keshitong Information Technology Co Ltd will use RFID (radio frequency identification) technology to provide a personal information management system covering athletes for the executive committee.
Special Olympics athletes will be given a card storing personal information, enabling officials to provide specialized medical care.
Video monitors and video-conferencing will also be used during the Games, said the committee.
GPS technology will be used to dispatch shuttle buses operating during the Games. Altogether 18 shuttle bus lines will run between stadiums every 30 minutes.
