More than 3,000 representatives of the 40,000 volunteers for the Special Olympic World Summer Games attend a ceremony at the Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall yesterday to officially begin their service with the Games as the first delegation arrived in Shanghai from Ghana. The Games, which will run from October 2 to 11 in the city, have attracted more than 11,000 athletes from about 160 countries and regions. The famous Spanish tenor Jose Carreras is expected to make an appearance on the stage at the closing ceremony.-Shanghai Daily
