Shanghai Daily news

Construction sites near venues and hotels that will be used for the coming Special Olympics have been told to suspend operation during the event, the Shanghai Evening Post reported yesterday.

The ban will be imposed upon construction sites that are within 100 meters of Special Olympics venues and hotels, said a notice issued by the city's supervisor of building materials development and applications yesterday.

The event will run from October 2 to October 11. The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at Shanghai Stadium in Xujiahui, which can hold 80,000 people.

Other construction sites in the city should try to control noise at as low a level as possible, said the notice.

Dust should also be controlled strictly, it said.
