Renowned Spanish tenor Jose Carreras was rehearsing yesterday for his performance at the closing ceremony of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games at Jiangwan Stadium tomorrow night.
"Special Olympics is very emotional for all of us," Carreras said.
According to Teng Junjie, chief director of the ceremony, Carreras will present "Friends for Life" with Chinese soprano Liu Lian in Chinese, English and Spanish. The song was also sung at the Summer Olympics 1992 in Barcelona.
On Friday evening, Carreras' solo concert at Shanghai Grand Theater will include a tribute to his friend, Italian opera star Luciano Pavarotti, who died last month.
"Pavarotti was a very exceptional artist," Carreras said. "I will sing some beautiful songs we used to sing together."
