City Mayor Han Zheng met delegates from Putuo District to discuss the
government work report, including on some chief concerns of local citizens,
yesterday afternoon.
Livelihood was the key word in their discussions.
Delegate Cui Zhiren expressed his hope at the meeting that the social
security policy could soon cover more citizens, while delegate Miao Lin called
on more government efforts to further address residents' concerns of medical
care by lowering medical treatment fees. Delegate Zhu Yuanqin suggested that the
neighborhood committee should play a bigger role in enhancing neighborhood
security together with the efforts of residents.
After listening to delegates' opinions, Han said the government always put
citizens¡¯ interest as top priority, and would continue to address local
residents' concerns, including by lifting their living standard and making sure
they benefit from the city's development.
During the economics discussion, delegate Xie Wei hoped more measures would
be adopted to support those innovative small and medium-sized enterprises, while
delegate Zhang Jishun suggested the government cultivate skilled talents and a
vocational education system to meet the market demands. Other delegates'
opinions varied from self-innovation to drug research.
Mayor Han Zheng thanked the delegates¡¯ for their suggestions. Being in a
critical period of development, Shanghai should focus on increasing its
international competence and accelerating the transformation of its economic
growth model to achieve a service-oriented economy, Han said. He also urged
people from all walks of life to work together to achieve the goals set by the
government work report.
