High-tech info system to manage Expo construction
29/7/2007 15:59

Shanghai Daily news

Expo organisers yesterday unveiled the advanced information system for construction management during an informatization forum.

The Bureau of the Shanghai World Expo Coordination explained the main functions of the system and said it builds a platform for the project management and the site's plans, enables visual supervision of the construction site, and ensures orderly digital management of the construction files, including contracts and the construction process itself.

The system has played an important role in the construction of the Expo site, collecting many kinds of information and presenting the accurate status of the site to supervisors.

The 5.28-square-kilometer Expo site is the biggest construction site in China; it will have more than 300 projects by the end of 2009. The coordination of each construction team and each project will be the biggest challenge during the site??s build-up.

The huge construction site of Expo 2010 challenges traditional construction management, and the use of the high-tech information system is an innovation that sets a new standard for big construction projects, said Tang Dingfu, vice director of the Shanghai City Development Information and Research Center.

More than 200 experts and officials attended the informatization forum to discuss the application of new information systems to the Expo.

The information forum will be held once a year in the run-up to the Expo.
