Xi urges neighbours to take advantage of 'Expo effect'

A delegation led by Shanghai Party Secretary Xi Jinping and Mayor Han Zheng yesterday started a visit to Zhejiang Province, and had a talk with Zhejiang Party Secretary Zhao Hongzhu, and Governor Lu Zushan.

Xi said Shanghai together with neighbouring provinces, should seize the opportunity that Expo 2010 brings and take advantage of the "Expo effect."

Xi, on behalf of Shanghai's government, thanked Zhejiang for its long support to Shanghai's development. He said the Shanghai delegation wants to learn from Zhejiang's development, talk about more cooperation between the neighbours and push forward the integrated development of the Yangtze Delta.

Zhao, on behalf of the Zhejiang's government, welcomed the delegation. He said the cooperation between Shanghai and Zhejiang will bring a more prosperous economy in the Yangtze Delta.

Zhao said Zhejiang will seize opportunities presented by Expo 2010 to push the development of the province.

Gong Xueping, director of the standing committee of the Shanghai People's Congress, Jiang Yiren, chairman of the Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Du Jiahao, Pudong Party secretary, and Zhong Yanqun, deputy director of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai Executive Committee, are also part of the delegation.

The delegation yesterday visited Jiaxing City in Zhejiang.
