Shanghai has finished a sanitation survey of waterways in the Expo site to standardize emergency measures during the event in 2010 and to draft guideliens for ships, covering issues such as noise, as waste gas.

The city is expected to ferry about 30,000 people an hour across the Huangpu River during the event, which will challenge the city's sanitation.

The survey was conducted by the Shanghai Professional Association of City Sanitation and Shanghai Water Area Environment Corporation.
