Organizers of the World Expo 2010 yesterday signed two Chinese companies as
the event's major sponsors to manufacture licensed products for the
event. The two companies, Shanghai Sinnsa and JuneYao Group, will produce 12
types of products, all bearing the Expo mascot or the Expo logo, including
domestic textiles, ceramics, garments, jewelry, stationery, souvenirs and
toys. These licensed products will debut with the World Expo mascot at the
end of this year, said Chen Xianjin, deputy director of the Bureau of Shanghai
World Expo Coordination. The market value of the franchise products for the
Shanghai Expo is estimated to be at least 2.5 billion yuan (US$332.89 million),
said Zhu Zhengping, chairman and president of Shanghai Sinnsa. Sinnsa, made
up of 20 companies mostly based in Shanghai that deal in textile and garment
business, was specially established only four months ago to win the major
sponsorship for Shanghai Expo with an initial investment of 250 million
yuan. "It is a great opportunity for us private companies to participate in
such a grand event in China," said Zhu. "We will utilize our strong design team,
cost-controls, and management experience to the maximum to support the product
manufacturing." JuneYao, a leading private enterprise that owns an airline
and a dairy operation, has already participated in manufacturing and selling
franchise products for the Beijing Olympics, Formula One and FIFA Women's World
Cup 2007.
