The Principality of Monaco signed a participation contract with Shanghai Expo organizers yesterday, becoming the 20th country to ink a deal for the 2010 world fair.

The country, with a population of about 32,000 people, has secured a 2,000-square-meter pavilion to showcase the concept of reclaiming land from the sea and its protection of ocean flora.

The nation's display will also promote the famous Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The theme of Monaco's exhibition is "The past, present and future of Monaco-challenges confronting countries during development."
