Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng yesterday inspected the venues for the coming FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will kick off on September 10 at Hongkou Soccer Stadium.

Han said all work should be finished on schedule to ensure everything is ready for the kick-off.

“We need to provide careful and professional services for guests from all over the world, as the Women’s World Cup initiates other world events in Shanghai this year,”said Han.“We strive to fully prepare each work with the guidance of FIFA and the organizing committee of the FIFA Women’s World Cup”, he added.

Shanghai Deputy Party Secretary Yin Yicui said it is a great opportunity for Shanghai to host such a big international sporting event, so people should take the chance to show the world a great city. She also pointed out the event will lay a solid foundation for the Special Olympics in October.

Shanghai Hongkou Soccer Stadium completed year-long renovations in June. FIFA officials praised Shanghai’s efforts during an inspection in early August.
