Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng yesterday inspected the venues for the coming FIFA Women¡¯s World Cup, which will kick off on September 10 at Hongkou Soccer Stadium.

Han said all work should be finished on schedule to ensure everything is ready for the kick-off.

¡°We need to provide careful and professional services for guests from all over the world, as the Women¡¯s World Cup initiates other world events in Shanghai this year,¡±said Han.¡°We strive to fully prepare each work with the guidance of FIFA and the organizing committee of the FIFA Women¡¯s World Cup¡±, he added.

Shanghai Deputy Party Secretary Yin Yicui said it is a great opportunity for Shanghai to host such a big international sporting event, so people should take the chance to show the world a great city. She also pointed out the event will lay a solid foundation for the Special Olympics in October.

Shanghai Hongkou Soccer Stadium completed year-long renovations in June. FIFA officials praised Shanghai¡¯s efforts during an inspection in early August.
