Shanghai Metro operators said yesterday that they are prepared for an
expected increase in traffic flow during the upcoming Women's World Cup and the
Special Olympic Games in the city.
Metro operators will arrange two
backup trains on Metro Line 3 when World Cup matches start on September 10 at
the Hongkou Soccer Stadium while four trains will stand by during the opening
and closing ceremonies for the event, the Youth Daily reported
today.
During the matches, Exit 1 and Exit 2 at the Metro Line 3's
Hongkou Sports Stadium Station will be accessible only for fans with tickets
while other commuters will be asked to use Exit 3 and Exit 4, the report
said.
For the Special Olympics, which run from October 2 to 11, Metro
operators will offer free trips on all trains and reserve a special entrance for
athletes in the first car of each train. They will also arrange volunteers to
escort athletes during subway journeys, the report said.
