City officials held a fair in Hong Kong yesterday to promote a series of
festivals and sports games in Shanghai this autumn and invite domestic and
overseas guests to attend the events.
The two festivals are the Shanghai International Arts Festival and the
Shanghai Tourism Festival and the six sports events the city will hold are the
2007 FIFA Women's World Cup, the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games, the
Chinese Formula One Grand Prix, the Tennis Masters Cup 2007, the Shanghai Golden
Grand Prix and the Shanghai International Marathon.
Li Yiping, Vice Secretary-general of the Shanghai Municipal government,
thanked Hong KongĄ¯s residents and media for their support on the development of
ShanghaiĄ¯s arts, sports and tourism industries and expressed hope that they
would participate in this autumn's activities.
Guests present at the fair said that they believe the festivals and sports
events would fully display the charm and vitality of the city.
