Rain may fall on parade, warns weather bureau

Shanghai Daily news

Rain may spoil the opening ceremony of the Shanghai Tourism Festival tomorrow, according to the latest weather forecast yesterday.

From tonight, rain is forecast all weekend, dropping temperatures to under 30 degrees Celsius, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Tomorrow's opening ceremony, which will include a parade of floats and fireworks, will still go on even if it rains - and raincoats are being prepared for the audience, according to the Shanghai Tourism Administrative Commission.

The weekend's high temperatures will range between 27 and 29 degrees, with lows between 25 to 27 degrees, said the bureau.

The cool wet weather is caused by both a weak cold front from the north and a tropical system from the coast.

The days may get warmer after the rain ceases, and usually the city will cool down after "Cold Dew" on the solar calendar, which will fall on October 9 this year, said the bureau.

This year's 12th typhoon called Nari was forming over the ocean 1,200 kilometers east of Taiwan at 2pm yesterday, and is expected to move northwest to the East China Sea, reported the bureau.

The bureau is closely watching Nari to see whether it will affect Shanghai.
