The popular cultural activities of the ninth Shanghai International Arts
Festival will kick off on the evening of October 17, one day before the curtain
officially rises on the festival.
The theme for the activities this year is sharing, innovation and
communication. The month-long event strives to encourage communication and folk
arts.
The festival will include the Shanghai International Chorus Festival this
year. American pop star Beyonc¨¦Knowles is scheduled to stage a performance
during the arts festival.
The Shanghai International Arts Festival is operated by the Ministry of
Culture under the approval of the State Council. It has been held from October
18 to November 18 annually since 1999. It usually includes shows, exhibitions,
popular cultural events, art fairs, seminars and minor
festivals.
