For some brands, the arrival of the Tennis Masters in the city for the Tennis
Masters Cup is an opportunity to promote their products.
Being the ambassador of Jura coffee machines, Roger Federer, the world number
one, appeared at a press conference themed "Jura and Ferderer: Greetings from
Switzerland" last Thursday.
"Jura and I have something in common. We are both from Switzerland. Jura has
fans all over the world and I happen to be one of them," Federer said.
"With its great design, it's easy to use. It brings the coffee culture from
Switzerland."
At the event the defending champion made a cup of coffee with a Jura Z5
coffee machine and then signed his name on the machine. It will be auctioned on
Jura's official Website.
The money will be donated to the Roger Federer's Foundation to support
disabled children and promote sports among young people.
Arriving in Shanghai last Monday, Federer said he is adapting to the time
difference.
"I start to practice tennis the day after my arrival. My goal this time is to
defend the championship," he said. "As to more goals in the future, my birthday
coincides with the date of the 2008 Beijing Olympic open ceremony and it is my
hope that next year I can become Switzerland's standard-bearer at the opening
ceremony."
Also on Thursday the Spaniard David Ferrer was at the Orient Shopping Center
on Nanjing Road E. where he attracted a lot of fans. He met them at the counter
of LOTTO, an Italian sports brand and signed his name on his ATP posters one by
one for the fans. He also taught fans how to hold a tennis racket properly.
"It is my first time to come to China and the fans are lovely," he said.
"With their support, I am confident I will give a good performance at this
year's Masters Cup."
