American former world No.1 Andy Roddick started his Masters Cup campaign with
a roller coaster 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Russian world number four Nikolay
Davydenko in Shanghai yesterday.
Roddick should have made it shorter when he was leading one set and one break
up in the second set, but the bald Russian stretched his opponent all the way in
a shade of two hours.
Another two contenders of the group, world number one Roger Federer of
Switzerland and seventh seed Fernando Gonzalez from Chile, will play Monday's
later match in the 4.45 million U.S. dollars event at Shanghai's Qi Zhong Tennis
Stadium.
