City health authorities are checking stranded travelers at railway stations for symptoms of infectious diseases and disinfecting the air there.

Health workers have been advising travelers on hygiene and distributing advisory pamphlets and free masks to help prevent the spread of diseases.

Officials from the Xuhui District Health Bureau said the cold weather coupled with people having to spend long times in crowded areas and some migrant workers' poor hygienic habits could help spread diseases.
