Shanghai has ordered all landscape lighting be switched and has asked major companies and shops to turn off large advertising signs to conserve electricity.

The municipal government has asked people to conserve energy and keep indoor temperatures at no higher than 20 degrees Celsius.

The Shanghai Public Sanitation Bureau said yesterday conservation was needed during the period of heavy snow.

The bureau is prepared for the snow forecast for the city today and tomorrow with more than 10,000 sanitary workers out of 12,295 electing to stay in the city during the Spring Festival to help clear the snow.
