Wang Jianfeng: Sanitation worker at the Jing'an District Public Sanitation Bureau

'I started work before 5am and stayed until late at night. '

From January 26 to Wednesday, Wang Jianfeng worked to clear snow from the streets and said it was hardest he has worked in his 10 years on the job.

"I have worked as a street sweeper for more than 10 years. In the past even there was snow, it only took me a few hours to clear it," said Wang, 45, from Anhui Province.

While some of Wang's co-workers drove salt spreaders, the rest used shovels and brooms to deal with the snow.

"I started work before 5am and stayed until late at night, almost twice my normal working hours. Some of my co-workers also worked night shifts to ensure streets were swept 24 hours a day."

Wang also said he was lucky enough not to have slipped on the streets. "Some of my co-workers have fallen over, and one broke a bone. There's always heavy snow in my hometown, so I'm accustomed to it," Wang said.

He saw others falling on the slippery streets. "The only thing I can do is help them stand up and work harder to clear the snow."

Wang said he would not go home this year because he would be dealing with the new snow falls which have been forecast.
