Huang Yuren£ºDoctor at Xinhua Hospital's orthopedic emergency treatment department

'It was after midnight before I could return home, where I lay on the bed with hardly any strength to move. '

Huang Yuren from Xinhua Hospital's orthopedic emergency treatment department said he and his colleagues experienced a crazy week after snow started to fall in the city continuously. He said he had rarely experienced such pressure at work in the 14 years working at the hospital.

"Our daily patient intake doubled. The small clinic was crammed with patients, and we had to borrow beds from other departments," Huang said.

He said the department normally has 40 to 50 patients every day with fewer than 10 of these suffering from fractures or broken bones. On Monday the emergency department saw more than 100 patients and up to 70 or 80 every other day.

"I started to work at 8am in the morning and never stopped for a minute for water or rest. Lunch was quickly taken but not until at least 2pm. It was after midnight before I could return home, where I lay on the bed with hardly any strength to move," he said.
