Shanghai Daily news
Cloudy skies and frigid temperatures are forecast today and tomorrow in
Shanghai before the snow makes a comeback on Friday, the national weather
authority said.
The low will drop to minus one degree Celsius in urban
areas today, according to the National Meteorological Center.
Extreme low
temperatures ranging between minus two and four degrees will hit outlying
districts such as Jiading, Minhang and Baoshan.
The center advised people
to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and be careful if going out because snow
and ice will not thaw and streets will still be slippery.
Snow or sleet
is expected over the weekend, but sunny skies are forecast on
Sunday.
Nationwide, a new wave of snowstorms are forecast in the
northwest, southwest, and southern areas of the country this weekend.
Temperatures will remain at or below zero in eastern and southern China
for the next 10 days.
Blizzards have been blamed for the deaths of at
least 24 people and stranded hundreds of thousands during the nation's busiest
holiday travel season.
Shanghai was hit by the city's heaviest snowfall
in about 50 years on Monday.
