Juan Pablo Montoya says he is having "beautiful rhythm" for his first-ever
trip to Shanghai. The BMW Williams team star arrived in the city late on
Monday, right after celebrating his 29th birthday on the Great Wall near
Beijing. "If I should worry about anything at this moment, it could only be
the upcoming race at the Shanghai International Circuit," said the Colombian
racer when he showed up yesterday at a promo in Xintiandi. Montoya is well
aware that his first on-track experience in China will be the key to a positive
weekend and he visited the circuit with his engineer on Tuesday for an early
look at track. "Shanghai is a level field because everyone is in the same
position of not knowing the circuit. This will be challenging but I am ready for
that," Montoya said. With only the last three grand prix to go for 2004,
Montoya hasn't started thinking about the next season with McLaren yet. He
said he made the decision to leave Williams a year ago, but he never cares about
who his teammate is. "Every season is hard for different reasons and I just
try to be always working hard to have a good chance of making it. "But I
hope next year will be a bit more competitive," he said. Xintiandi was packed
with F1 events yesterday. Last night, Japanese driver Takuma Sato appeared
for the British American Racing Team's week-long ceremony for Shanghai's
inaugural F1 game.
