Ralf Schumacher drives down the Shanghai International Circuit
in Jiading yesterday during free practice.---Shanghai Daily
Anthony Davidson once again staked his claim to a fulltime Formula One race
seat with lapping fastest time in both of Friday's practice sessions in Shanghai
for the inaugural Chinese Grand Prix.
The BAR's British driver, who will not
race on Sunday, topped the timesheets with a best lap of one minute 33.289
seconds. The BAR left rivals trailing on first day of practice with its rising
star Jenson Button second in the afternoon in 1:34.174.
Ralf Schumacher
celebrated his return to active duty and for Williams with 1m 35.455 seconds,
second quickest in the morning.
The German, however, fell to the seventh in
1:34.714 in the second session.
Kimi Raikkonen of McLaren, winner in Belgium
last month, was third fastest in 1:34.289 in the afternoon, followed by his
teammate David Coulthard.
World champion Michael Schumacher, who clinched an
unprecedented seventh drivers' crown in Belgium, was a surprise 15th on the
timesheets in the morning. He managed to go up to the seventh overall.
Having
failed to win either of the past two races, he should have been keen to return
to winning ways and claim the maiden victory at the inaugural Chinese GP.
The
35-year-old, however, seemed not eager to win. He was out of the pits about 25
minutes after the session kicks off, becoming the second from the bottom to run
on the circuit.
