Voices of the city

He Huawei (security guard)
I am very happy to work here. Although I cannot watch the race, I am very satisfied to hear the roaring engines. ThatĄŻs enough for me. In addition, itĄŻs my first time to see such a wild scenario with so many high-end racing cars. I wish the event would last a few more days.

Richie Jen (Taiwan singer)
Shanghai hosting a Formula One event proves the cityĄŻs strong organizaion capability and its status as the countryĄŻs financial center. I hope locals enjoy the party here, but be sure not to drive like F1 racers when you go on the streets.

Wang Zhenghao (MBA student)
ItĄŻs unbelievable that the racing cars pass just like a gust of wind. The race proves the theory that light travels faster than sound, which can only be heard after the cars pass by more than 10 meters. ItĄŻs fantastic. I would regret if I missed such a race. But the souvenirs are too expensive.

Lu Xin (accountant)
ItĄŻs too noisy and I think most of the people here know little about the sport. They donĄŻt get involved in the party too much and the organizers should encourage more non-business activities. ItĄŻs just too commercial.

Zhang Jie (cabbie)
They are burning money. I would not throw my money in the water like that. The ticket price is outrageous. The three-day VIP ticket costs more than my monthly salary. ItĄŻs only a rich manĄŻs game.

Claas Hennig (German press agency)
The point is that itĄŻs not Shanghai needs Formula One, but Formula One needs Shanghai. The circuit is terrific but looks too big to me. I doubt how they will use it most of year besides these three days. Maybe someday in the future, itĄŻll be helpful when Shanghai hosts the Olympic Games.

Tian (scalper)
My tickets didnĄŻt sell as well as I expected. The visitors are quite good at bargaining. But itĄŻs OK by me. Police here keeping a close eye on us are very annoying.

Rachel Zeng (volunteer)
I feel itĄŻs like a big festival. Everyone enjoys it a lot. Although my job is a little bit boring here, IĄŻm quite happy to be part of the event.

Chen (sales assistant at Ferrari store)
People are crazy about Ferrari products even though they are very expensive. People who come to the circuit wouldnĄŻt hesitate to spend another 350 yuan (US$42) on a T-shirt, especially when itĄŻs a Ferrari product. Each person spends about 700 yuan on average at our store.

Zhang Jun (visitor from Henan Province)
I spent 3,300 yuan (US$398) on tickets and I think it was worth it. But I think the city should do more to promote the event. It took me almost eight hours to get to the circuit from the railway station because few knew the routes. But I am not sure if I will come next year if the ticket price stays unchanged. It depends on my purse.
