Russian maestro Vladimir Viardo is offering a feast of piano works in his recital next Monday in the Shanghai Concert Hall.
Viardo was born in the Caucasus Mountains near the Black Sea. His piano ambitions at the age of 14 took him to Moscow to study with Professor Lev Naumov at the Moscow Conservatory. There he obtained his doctorate degree and was appointed associate professor to Naumov.
He first gained international fame after winning top prize of the Maguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
He then received concert contracts for more than 70 recitals and appearances with symphony orchestras in major US cities.
Immediately after his concert with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Viardo was offered the position of professor, artist in residence at the University of North Texas. He is also the founder of the Viardo Foundation, which is committed to providing financial assistance to his promising students so they can finish their musical studies.
In his Shanghai recital, Viardo will perform ``Brahms Sonata No. 3'', Liszt's ``Funerailles'' and Brahms' ``Hungarian Dances No. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 9.''
