Shanghai's Mayor Han Zheng joined congress deputies from Putuo District Delegation to review his government report yesterday afternoon.

The deputies are part of the more than 800 deputies of Shanghai People's Congress, which began their five-day annual plenary meeting yesterday.

They reviewed the mayor's 32-page report, which sums up last year's work, in districtal groups yesterday afternoon and will vote on ratifying it on Friday.

Deputies from Putuo District devoted actively to the group discussion. Praising highly of the city government's work in the previous year, they said the government report is honest, convincing, realistic and encouraging.

Thinking targets and tasks raised in the report for this year are clear and prethoughtful, the deputies are confident they can fairly be reached.

In the group deliberation, Han described 2004 a key year to Shanghai's economic system reform and expected a continual healthy economic growth this year.

He said the city will strongly push ahead the government reform program, boost local economy and further improve the residents' life in the year.

Han also informed the deputies of the city's key initiatives for this year, including optimizing the city's structure of foreign exports, better use of foreign direct investment, accelerating infrastructure construction and furthering the reform of state-run enterprises.
