Until the 24th of this month, a guest chef from Spain, Jorge Jurado Solano,
will be cooking up both traditional and modern Spanish cuisine at the Pudong
Novotel¡¯s second floor Olive restaurant culminating with a five-course Spanish
wine dinner on the 25th.
The Novotel Hotel¡¯s guest chef Jorge Jurado Solano from Alicante,
Spain, employs ingredients from sea and land to create Spanish classics like
paella (above), slow cooked rice with seafood, roasted pepper salad (below left)
and cod fillet with asparagus (below right).
Lunches will feature an array of tapas, evenings the same but also with
different signature dishes of Solano¡¯s though what they will be the chef can¡¯t
say yet since he has yet to establish what exactly is available to him at
Shanghai markets.
Long overlooked by Italian cuisine, Spanish is now making
of a strong resurgence.
¡°Many people like Spanish food because of how
healthy it is. It¡¯s more fish based than meat and olive oil is used extensively
as opposed to butter or cream. In Spain the ingredients used are fresh straight
from the country or the sea,¡± said Solano: ¡°It¡¯s usually very colorful and full
of vibrant flavors.¡±
Solano hails from Alicante on the Southeast coast of
Spain.
Tapas that will be appearing will include the likes of chorizo and
cider; clams with garlic sauce and beignets of black pudding.
There
will also be garlic shoots omelet, moules farcies and of course stalwartslike
patatas bravas.
Special mains in the evening will include paella and roast
cod and the likes of Catalan roast vegetables.
Lunch is 98 yuan (US$12.1)
with a glass of wine, dinner is 158 yuan with the special five-course Spanish
