This year's tourism festival activities organized by Huangpu District will include a history lesson as well as the traditional activities, including an opening parade and music performances along the Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall.
The bund Branch of the Shanghai Municipal Archives will put nearly 100 documentaries about the city's past and historical figures, and exhibit over 600 old articles of the city, which haven't been displayed before, from September 18 to October 6.
Clocks made during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), or imported from abroad at that time, which were collected by the Palace Museum in Beijing, will be exhibited in Yuyuan Garden from September 28 to November 10.
Nine traditional games that were often played years ago will be performed by senior citizens in front of the Shanghai Concert Hall on September 24.
The opening parade for the Shanghai Tourism Festival will begin at 7pm, September 17, on the newly renovated Century Square on Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall. Bands and dancing groups from more than 10 countries will join the parade, which is to last until midnight.
