Musical firework shows and skydiving will be the
highlights of Zhabei District¡¯s third annual tourism festival. Connected to the
ongoing 2005 Shanghai Tourism Festival, the event will take place in Daning Green
Land from October 2 to 7.
A group of 30 people will jump out of a plane and hurtle towards the ground
in Zhabei District during the upcoming National Day Holiday.
The skydiving
performance is part of the district's third tourism festival, which is connected
to the ongoing Shanghai Tourism Festival.
The annual Zhabei Tourism Festival
will take place in Daning Green Land from October 2 to October 7. It will
include a large number of traditional and non-traditional entertainment
events.
The program includes two musical firework shows, skydiving and
water-skiing.
The festival, which will cost more than 4.5 million yuan
(US$562,500), aims at providing special activities for city dwellers to fully
relax and have fun over the holiday.
The Daning Green Land
Green spaces in Zhabei have grown quickly in recent
years, especially in the form of parks. The district's green cover rate has
reached nearly 15.7 percent, or 2.13 square meters per capita.
Opened to the
public in 2003, Daning Green Land covers an area of about 680,000 square meters,
and is the biggest green space in Puxi.
In the center of the green land is a
man-made lake with a fountain in the middle. Round the large body of water are
paths that connect trees, brooks and artificial hills together.
By offering
recreation and relaxation facilities, the green land improves community health
and increases property values. It provides a habitat for numerous species of
animals and plants.
Skydiving
Nothing can beat the exhilaration you feel after you first watch
someone leaping from a plane 300 meters above the ground. This is the only time
this year skydivers will show off their skills in Shanghai.
The 30 skydivers
are members of China's National Skydiving Team. They perform a form of aerial
ballet and practice different positions known as solo landing, group landing,
accuracy landing, smoke skydiving and gliding, to name just a few.
The
performance will last for two hours. Live entertainment such as water-skiing
will be on performed during the break.
Laser Fireworks
Laser shows, water
screens, fireworks, lights, and music, all together forms the two splendid music
fireworks show - Tulip Dream and The Butterfly Lovers (also known as Liang
Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai). The world leading fireworks manufacturer from
Netherlands and China will show their latest developments.
This year's Tulip
Dream Fireworks show promises a grand opening with a pyrotechnic display.
Conducted by the most prestigious fireworks company in Netherlands - AZUMA -
the show will present the latest technology in fireworks.
This technology
allows fireworks to be fired from numerous locations, and enables the
performances to be digitally synchronized with the music and lasers
perfectly.
Alongside the man-made lake, a 30-meter-tall windmill has been
especially designed. In addition, each millfan will be equipped with fireworks.
Apart from the western fireworks show, the festival will provide a domestic
show for audiences as well - an ancient Chinese folktale "The Butterfly
Lovers."
The show, presented by Lidu Fireworks Corp, will tell viewers an
ancient Chinese tragic story via a brand new artistic form. Legend has it that
Liang Shan Bo and Zhu Ying Tai died because their parents opposed their
marriage. Miraculously, the couple turned into butterflies, flying from the
grave, and will never be separated again.
The background music will be a
violin concerto, composed based on that legend.
Daning Green Land officials
have estimated 5,000 to 10,000 will take in each show. Thousands of people may
also watch from their homes around the green land.
