Ljubicic clinches win in Masters Cup debut
14/11/2005 11:45

The sensation of the late-season, Ivan Ljubicic, joined Roger Federer in sending a second Argentine to defeat with his 6-2, 6-3 decision over Guillermo Coria.

Ljubicic, winner of indoor titles over the past month in Metz and Vienna as well as a finalist in both the Masters Series Madrid (lost to Rafael Nadal) and last week's Masters Series Paris (lost to Tomas Berdych), earned in place in Shanghai thanks to his autumn efforts.

The Croatian struck 11 aces and broke Coria on four of nine occasions; he managed 25 winners.

He also moved closer to passing 2005 ace leader Andy Roddick as he improved his season total to 887 with the injured American sitting on 912.

Ljubicic improved his ATP-best indoor record to 34-6 during 2005.
