2005 agenda for medical support to farmers issued

The 2005 agenda issued by the Shanghai Public Health Bureau on January 8
indicates further investment in the cooperation medical treatment funds for
rural areas and a more perfect service system for farmers' health care. This
year, the allowance extended to farmers who participate in the cooperation
medical treatment was increased to 30 yuan (US$ 3.6) per person. To ensure
100% participation, governments, along with the social funds, will help out
those who are too poor to take part in this system. Also, the Health Bureau
will enhance works in the following segments: * medical experts teams will be
sent regularily to the rural areas; * 400,000 yuan will be used for the
renovation of 10 town clinics in 5 rural districts, such as Minhang, Nanhui,
Fengxian, Qingpu and Chongming; * more town clinics will become friendly
partners with the city-level hospitals.
