Minhang District prosecutors have
charged an unemployed man with attempted contract fraud after he allegedly tried
to sell an apartment he had rented by using a fake real estate certificate and
ID card. Peng Keyuan, 25, allegedly used a fake name to set up an account on
a real estate Website and rented a two-room, 40-squaremeter apartment in
Chengyang residential community in Minhang District. Prosecutors say he then
spent 600 yuan (US$72) to buy a fake ID card in the name Hua Jie and real estate
certificate saying Hua owned the apartment. After that, he allegedly listed
the apartment for sale on the Website, with the price set at 360,000
yuan. The low price attracted thousands of people to visit his page. Among
them, Zhu Ping, who wanted to buy an apartment for her retired parents, was very
interested since the apartment was near her own home. She soon went to see
the apartment. Peng told her he had just accepted a job in another city and was
eager to sell the apartment quickly. He allegedly asked Zhu to pay 100,000 yuan
when the deal was signed and said he didn¡¯t want to involve any real estate
agencies in the transaction. Zhu was eager to buy the apartment, so she agreed.
On January 14, Peng and Zhu went to the district¡¯s real estate trade center
to sign the contract. When Peng was dealing with Zhu¡¯s husband, Zhu asked an
employee of the center to check the real estate certificate, which was quickly
deemed to be fake. Zhu called the police at once.
